Sixth-Grade Math Students Bring Geometry to Life with Magna-Tiles

DeSoto Intermediate sixth-grade math students are taking a hands-on approach to learning about surface area using Magna-Tiles!
As students begin exploring surface area, they are investigating nets of cubes—two-dimensional arrangements of six squares that can be folded to create a three-dimensional cube. By building, testing, and rearranging the tiles, students are discovering which nets successfully form a cube and developing a better understanding of how the faces of a three-dimensional shape fit together.
This engaging activity allows students to see and manipulate the connection between two-dimensional nets and three-dimensional figures, building an important foundation for calculating and understanding surface area.
Great job bringing math to life, Tigers!
