New High School Project

Anticipated Completion: Summer 2027

 

Project Summary: Construction of a new 1000-student high school. In addition to classroom spaces, some highlights of the project include a performing arts center, woods lab, auto lab, culinary arts lab, strength and conditioning spaces, competition gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, football field, and asphalt track. Note: A new stadium and baseball/softball fields will not be completed as a part of the initial project but will be completed at a later date.

Project Status Updates:

  • August 12, 2025: DOT public informational meeting about the DOT roundabout project on hwy 169 – 4:30-6:00pm at ADM High School Commons

  • June 11, 2025: Groundbreaking ceremony was held a the construction site.

  • April 2, 2025: Pre-construction meeting held. Initial site work began in April.

  • March 10, 2025: ADM Board of Education awarded the construction contract to Stahl Construction for a total contract amount of $56,350,000.

  • February 13, 2025: ADM received 6 bids for the construction of the new high school building project.

  • September 23, 2024: ADM Board of Education approved the Design/Development package for the new high school building.

  • September 19, 2023: ADM Board of Education approved the purchase agreement for the site of the high school building.

  • July 10, 2023: ADM Board of Education approved a 10-Year facility master plan.

DOT Roundabout Project Information

  • The Iowa Department of Transportation has identified a project for the construction of a roundabout on U.S. 169 at the intersection with Common Place and the entrance to the new ADM High School. The following is a summary of ADM’s involvement in this process.

     

    • June 2023: ADM started the process to explore and review potential sites for a new high school. This review and process included collaboration with the City of Adel. The city of Adel shared no reservations regarding this site and expressed a preference for a location south of Adel.
    • September 2023: ADM purchased 80 acres on the south side of Adel along hwy 169. This purchase was approved at the September 19, 2023 Board meeting and communicated to the community through a physical mailer to all residents and ADM’s 2023 Bond Website, ahead of the November bond vote.
    • November 2023: ADM voters passed the bond vote with a 79.25 yes vote knowing the location of the new high school along hwy 169.
    • December 2023: The DOT required ADM to complete a traffic study along hwy 169 at the intersection with Common Place and the entrance to the new ADM High School. ADM contracted with Foth Infrastructure and Environment LLC to complete a traffic study as required by the DOT. Foth Infrastructure and Environment LLC  recommended a roundabout at this location.
    • March 2024: ADM met with representatives of the Iowa DOT, representatives from the City of Adel, and Foth Infrastructure and Environment LLC to review the recommendations. The Iowa DOT voiced support for the findings and the construction of the roundabout on hwy 169 as a DOT project. At this meeting the DOT requested letters of support for the DOT roundabout project from ADM and the City of Adel.
    • April 2024: Foth Infrastructure and Environment LLC presented the findings and recommendation of a roundabout to the ADM Board of Education on April 8, 2024. The presentation from Foth Infrastructure and Environment LLC included statistics about safety, traffic flow, and other considerations that led to their recommendation. The ADM Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a letter of support for the DOT roundabout project on hwy 169.
    • May 2024: The City of Adel voted to approve a letter of support for the DOT roundabout project on hwy 169 on May 13, 2024.
    • July 2024: The Iowa DOT submitted an application for Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds on July 8, 2024. The Iowa DOT approved Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for the DOT roundabout project on highway 169 on July 25, 2024.
    • August 2025: The Iowa DOT will hold a public informational meeting about the upcoming construction of a new roundabout on U.S. 169 at the intersection with Common Place and the entrance to the new ADM High School. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m., in the ADM High School Commons.
