Eighth-grade students at ADM Middle School recently learned from Zane Satre, a meteorologist from KCCI TV. This was the final part of their unit on weather patterns. Zane made connections with students to their previous lessons of why weather happens, and brought some new hands-on demonstrations. These demonstrations helped students see how the sun heats the Earth unevenly, creating different temperatures and air pressures in the atmosphere.

Students also learned how these weather patterns can cause severe weather events like blizzards, hurricanes, and tornadoes. They looked at photos and videos to see the power of tornadoes. They also talked about important safety steps, like where to go for shelter during bad weather. Zane also talked about jobs in weather science. These jobs include TV weather reporters, forecasters at the National Weather Service, and researchers at colleges. Meteorologists also help industries like farming, flying, the military, sports, railroads, and power companies. The visit ended with students getting to see KCCI's Storm Chaser vehicle up close!

Thank you, Zane, for sharing your time and passion with the students at ADM Middle School.
