ADM Middle School is proud to share that two of their students have won the prestigious Silver Key Award in the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition, the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.

The Silver Key is a high honor, awarded to standout works that demonstrate exceptional ability and achievement at the regional level. This year, our students' submissions were selected by a panel of creative professionals who judged works based on three core criteria: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice.

Honorees:
Scarlett Drinkall
– Personal Essay/Memoir: Red Collar
Tatum Smith – Speculative Fiction: Melody!

Scarlett and Tatum will be honored and receive their Silver Pins at a special ceremony in Iowa City on March 7th.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have a legacy of identifying the early promise of some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers. By winning a Silver Key, Scarlett and Tatum join the ranks of a historic alumni network that includes icons like Stephen King, Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, and Amanda Gorman, all of whom received Scholastic Awards as teenagers.

The competition is highly competitive. Thousands of students from across the region submit their best original work in categories ranging from poetry and journalism to science fiction and memoir. To win a Silver Key places a student among the top tier of young writers in the state and region.

Please join ADM in congratulating Scarlett & Tatum!
