A portrait of Abbie Mahoney with a 'Thank You' message for 15 years of service.

Abbie Mahoney is a special education teacher at DeSoto Intermediate and she is celebrating 15 years with ADM this year.  Abbie was born and raised in Emmetsburg, IA and received her BA in elementary education and her special education endorsement from University of Iowa.  She, later, went on to receive her master of education degree from Morningside University.  Abbie has had the pleasure of teaching all 15 years of her teaching career in the ADM school district.

Mrs. Mahoney’s passion for teaching began at a young age when she would spend volunteer hours as a buddy at the elementary school.  She says, “I’ve always loved working with kids—helping them find joy in learning and celebrating their successes.”  She explored different career paths in college, but consistently found herself drawn back to education, feeling it’s where she could make the greatest impact.  She chose ADM because of its small town feel, strong sense of community, and the dedication of its administrators and staff to providing the very best for all students.  Abbie stays because of the district’s clear and unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality education for all students.

What Abbie enjoys most about teaching is helping foster a love of learning in students. She feels that “supporting them as they recognize their strengths, realize their potential, and grow in confidence is incredibly rewarding!”

When Abbie is not in her classroom, you’ll find her keeping up with her three kids, spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and sneaking in a good book whenever she can.

Thank you, Abbie Mahoney for your 15 years of service with ADM!
