ADM Scholarship Foundation
The Adel DeSoto Minburn School District Scholarship Foundation Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization established and incorporated for the sole purpose of providing financial assistance through scholarships to students graduating from Adel DeSoto Minburn High School who wish to further their education beyond the high school level. All Adel DeSoto Minburn High School graduates planning to attend a vocational, two-year, or four-year school are eligible to apply for a scholarship. The Foundation is financed solely through tax-deductible donor contributions. The interest earned annually is awarded in scholarships.
In 1982, Stan Norenberg, the Principal of Adel DeSoto High School, was inspired by a conversation with Chet Elston, a local radio and television personality and the keynote speaker for the high school’s annual Honor Society Program, to investigate the possibilities of a scholarship foundation. Chet Elston believed strongly enough in a scholarship program for the school district to become the first donor by contributing $150. Norenberg worked to gather support for a foundation, and by 1983, the Foundation was established. Hugh Norman was selected as the first president of the Foundation. Mr. Norman’s organizational skills and fundraising experience were instrumental in a successful start for the new program. The first board of Trustee members included W. E. Anderson, Darrell Bauman, Jan Daly, Vern Danilson, Wilma Hall Mitchell, Doug Hjort, Stan Norenberg, Hugh Norman and Phyllis York. The original Board established the goal of the Foundation to give every Adel DeSoto Minburn graduate a $1,000 scholarship to be used for higher education.

Tax-deductible contributions are made by individuals, clubs, businesses, memorials, and others. These funds are invested to create earned income. It is the goal of the foundation to fulfill all expenses and scholarship awards from these investment earnings.
How much of the contributions go to scholarships?
The trustees receive no compensation for the personal time and expertise devoted to the organization. While minimal operating expenses are incurred, more than 98% of the contributions are committed to the income earning investments. The foundation’s goal is to raise $2,000,000 and give a scholarship to every graduating senior who is pursuing further education.
