Students at DeSoto Intermediate receive a foundation in a variety of art methods with an emphasis on developing drawing skills. While engaging in art making, students gain experience visually communicating, develop creative thinking skills, and express their thoughts and ideas. Each lesson is designed to give students opportunities to interact with art history, build skills with art media, and foster original and innovative ideas.

At the beginning of the year, we create sketchbooks which are used to document and support the art-making and idea generating processes. Throughout the year, we learn and use techniques such as painting, printmaking, clay, collage, and drawing. Students are also given introductions to Art Careers like Clothing Design, Architecture, and Graphic Design.

In the Spring, students select and exhibit their work at an Art Show hosted at DeSoto Intermediate. With the permission of their parents, students can also choose to have their work represented on our online gallery through Artsonia.com. Artsonia allows parents and families to order products that display their student’s artwork. If you would like to sign your student up for Artsonia, let me know by sending me an email at mcramer@admschools.org.
