September 15th was International Dot Day. It is a day meant to celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration. 4th grade celebrated National Dot Day by listening to the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, and challenging students to “make their mark” by designing a dot. No guidelines were given, as a way to promote creativity and individuality. The students loved getting the chance to design and create their dot using their imagination, while simultaneously showing off their personalities. Now they are posted in our collaboration space as a daily reminder that together, we can create something beautiful. We learned that everyone starts somewhere, even if it’s a dot, but sometimes, with creativity and courage, that dot can turn into a lot.
