ADM High School biomedical students in Mrs. Garcia’s Medical Interventions class recently completed a complex lab procedure that models how medical professionals test for diseases such as bacterial meningitis. Students used a series of samples and chemicals that eventually changed color relative to the concentration of a pathogen in a patient’s cerebrospinal fluid.

Students created a standard dilution to compare concentrations, used micropipettes to distribute samples, and tracked the course of an outbreak scenario through a group of college students.

Students also worked in groups to analyze their own unique outbreak scenarios of different pathogens as they study the immune system, antibiotics, and the prevention of disease.
