DeSoto Intermediate 5th graders are currently learning about financial literacy in social studies through a Junior Achievement (JA) BizTown program.  This program allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Additionally, students learn to connect the learning standards to real-life scenarios.  The unit culminates with a visit to a simulated town where students enter into a fully interactive, mock town that simulates the day-to-day functions of thriving communities.
