DeSoto Intermediate students and teachers are engaging in an inquiry approach to social studies teaching and learning.  In 3rd-5th grade social studies classrooms, you will find students analyzing historical images and artifacts, using various lenses (historian, economist, political scientist, geographer) when engaging with new content, asking questions, researching their own answers, and working collaboratively to construct meaning around power standards. The vision for social studies in Iowa is to equip civic-minded students who understand from where they’ve come and are prepared for their role as global citizens actively engaged for the common good and prepared for college, career and civic life, and DeSoto Teachers are doing just that in their planning and execution of instruction!
