Children’s Book Week was celebrated the week of April 15 at Adel Elementary. Children’s Book Week takes place once in the fall and once in the spring every year at Adel Elementary, and this spring the theme was “Buggy About Books.”
“Children’s Book Week is a chance for students and teachers to celebrate the joy and importance of reading and literacy through enrichment and fun activities throughout the week,” said Assistant Principal Amy Hemphill.
Students celebrated Book Week through various bug-related activities including craft-making, hands-on learning, teambuilding, math activities, and theme-based reading.
The students also held a Penny Drive to collect funds to purchase books for local libraries (Adel, DeSoto, and Minburn) and for the residents of Adel Acres. The students raised over $1,600.00 in change, and all of the money to be used for the purchase of books and magazines for local library patrons and the residents of Adel Acres.
Adel Elementary students and staff had a great week full of reading, learning about bugs and helping others in the community!
