Friday, November 11th was truly a special day at ADM Middle School. We were honored by the presence of nearly 40 local veterans. After a full flag raising ceremony with singing provided by our very own choir, students proceeded to hear the stories and experience of various veterans.
We were able to pay our veterans a small thank you by honoring them at a middle school-wide ceremony where three veterans were awarded “Quilts of Valor”. Quilts were presented to Carroll York, Ivan Knoll and Jerry Bond and pieced and quilted by Laura Brenner, Pat Melroy and Laura Brenner and Tony Jacobson and Riina Thompson, respectively. Students spent the afternoon writing notes to active service members, perusing an incredible display of artifacts, and also packaging care packages for homeless veterans currently residing in the Des Moines area.
