Fifth Grade Faculty

Samantha Cole

I was born and raised in Laurens, a small town in northwest Iowa. In 2010, I received a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Reading and Language Arts from the University of Northern Iowa. My first year I taught 2nd Grade at East Greene Elementary in Rippey, Iowa. I joined the staff at DeSoto Intermediate in 2011 and have taught both 4th and 5th grades. My husband, Jacob, and I live in Adel with our sons Jack and Duke. We enjoy watching the Denver Broncos, spending time with our families, and adventures around the metro. I love to read picture books and introduce them to fantastic 5th graders!

Kristin Grimoskas

I am originally from Tipton, the home of the Tigers. I have two older brothers, Nick and Eric. Nick is a physical therapist for Rock Valley Physical Therapy and Eric works for a Hybrid Transit, a business in Marion. Both of my parents are educators and I can’t imagine doing anything different in my life! I attended the University of Northern Iowa and received my degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. While at UNI, I was a student athlete for the women’s swim team. In my free time I enjoy being with friends and family, working out, and cheering on my UNI Panthers and the Iowa Hawkeyes! I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and fun with my 5th graders! Go Tigers!

I am originally from Mason City, Iowa.  I grew up in a family of educators so a love of teaching was instilled in me early!  I graduated from Iowa State in 2006 with a degree in elementary education and endorsements in language arts and reading.  I started my teaching career at St. Anthony’s in Des Moines, where I taught 4th grade.  I began teaching at DeSoto in 2012 and I love spending my day with 5th graders!  I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my niece and nephews, reading, and cheering on the Cyclones and Packers.  Please follow our classroom on Twitter!

I was born and raised in a small town in north central Iowa called Crystal Lake. I reside in Adel with my husband Jeff and two children. Our son and daughter both attend ADM High school where they enjoy being with their friends and playing sports. We are huge Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinals fans. I chose teaching because I enjoy working with children and want to make a difference in their lives.

Amy Pottebaum

I am a fifth grade teacher at DeSoto Intermediate School.  Previously I have taught third grade, first grade, and Reading Recovery.  Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling, and taking my dog for walks.

Nicole Weaver

I was born and raised in Leland, IA, a awfully tiny town in North Central Iowa.  I received my Elementary Education degree with an endorsement in Reading in 2001.  My first teaching job was with Waukee Schools, teaching 2nd grade.  I taught there for 2 years before deciding to dive into being a stay-at-home mom.  When Ethan was ready for kindergarten, I was ready to go back to the classroom.  I joined the DeSoto Intermediate staff for the 2008-09 school year.  Initially I taught 3rd grade, moving to the 5th grade team for the 2009-2010 school year.  I absolutely love working with 5th graders!  They challenge me every day with their wit and knowledge, making each day unique.  My husband Jim and I live in Urbandale with our son Ethan.  We spend our weekends and evenings as a “transportation service” for Ethan.  He is a competitive swimmer and plays in jazz band as well as a jazz improvisation group.  In my very limited free time, I enjoy reading, trying out new recipes (to the horror of those dining with me) cheering on the Hawkeyes, and just spending time with my family doing nothing in particular.
