6th Graders at DeSoto Dive into Metabolism with Hands-On Science

Posted Date: 10/02/25 (12:18 PM)

Students in a classroom participate in a science activity, some raising their hands.

6th grade scientists have been hard at work learning about metabolism. As part of the unit, students participated in a hands-on simulation where they acted out the role of different body systems. By modeling how food molecules are broken down and used for energy, students gained a clearer understanding of how the body powers movement and supports growth.

Students work on a science project about the lungs, using pipe cleaners and a cardboard model.
This interactive activity brought science to life, helping students connect classroom learning to real-world processes happening inside their own bodies every day. Their energy and excitement made the lesson both memorable and meaningful!
