A woman smiles in a portrait, with text thanking her for 15 years of service.

Courtney Stephenson is a sixth grade math teacher as well as a fifth and sixth grade math instructional coach at DeSoto Intermediate.  She is celebrating 15 years with ADM this year.  Courtney was born and raised in Mason City, IA and she attended college at Iowa State University (BA) and Viterbo University (MA).

While reflecting on why she wanted to be a teacher, Mrs. Stephenson shared, “I have a deep passion for supporting others and believe in the power of education to change lives.” Courtney has always seen herself as a lifelong learner and she feels teaching allows her to grow alongside her students and colleagues — constantly evolving, reflecting, and improving. … She chose ADM because she recognized the district as a place she could see herself thriving and she felt the guiding beliefs and future of the district and of DeSoto Intermediate was something she wanted to be part of. … Courtney stays with ADM because she genuinely believes in ADM’s vision and commitment to students.  Regarding this, she states, “ADM is a place where students are truly at the center—where we believe in their potential, nurture their growth, and celebrate their successes.” What Courtney appreciates most about her role as a teacher is being able to work with a top-notch curriculum that allows students to engage in rigorous and relevant learning.  She feels strongly that being part of her students’ academic and personal growth is such a privilege.

Outside of school, Courtney cherishes her time spent with her husband, Kyle and their two children, Grayson and Decklyn. She loves to cheer loudly for the Cyclones and even louder for her kids in their activities.  Courtney also enjoys going to concerts with her best friends.  In regards to concerts, Courtney would tell you, “Life's too short, buy the tickets!”

Thank you, Courtney Stephenson, for your 15 years of service with ADM!
