This is my first year teaching and I am excited to be a part of the DeSoto Intermediate Staff. I will be teaching third grade this year. I recently graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Special Education. I am from Winterset, Iowa. I enjoy spending time with my three younger sisters, reading, working out and cooking.

After graduating high school from ADM, I attended Iowa Wesleyan College where I earned a BA in Elementary Education and a K-8 reading endorsement. I began my teaching career in Missouri and spent 7 years teaching Reading Recovery and Title I reading to K-4 students. In 2007, I joined the ADM team as a 1st grade/Title I teacher at Adel Elementary. I started teaching 3rd grade at DeSoto Intermediate in 2014. My husband (Mike) and I keep busy following our 4 daughters (Lexi, Brynna, Tori and Ella) and supporting them at various activities: soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball. In my free time I love spending time with my family, traveling, and running.

My first years of teaching were in central Indiana. I have been with the ADM district since 2000. I have two grown children and four grandchildren. I love spending time with my family and going to my grandchildren’s events. I also enjoy walking, biking, gardening, traveling and reading.

After graduating high school from Audubon, Iowa, I completed my undergraduate degree at Iowa State University. I have an endorsement in English/Language Arts and Reading. I started my teaching career in 2008 and joined the ADM staff in 2010 teaching 3rd grade. In the summer of 2013, I received my Master’s Degree in Education and my Literacy Specialist Degree. This is will be my first year using my degree to serve the staff of DeSoto Intermediate as an instructional Literacy Coach. I will be half-time in the classroom and half-time Literacy Coach. I live with my husband, Shannon, and daughter, Finley, in Adel. We enjoy gardening vegetables, biking, and going on walks. When I have time to myself, I like reading a good book, running, sewing, and DIY projects.

I am originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where I graduated from Jefferson High School in 1997.  After graduation, I attended The University of Iowa in Iowa City (GO HAWKS) and majored in elementary education and mathematics.  While at The University I was a member of The Hawkeye Marching Band where I met my husband Chad.  I received my degree in 2000 and married Chad and moved to the Des Moines area.  I began my teaching career at ADM in 2001.  Since then I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and also Talented and Gifted.  I am currently a half-time third grade teacher and half-time math and science instructional coach.  In 2008, I earned my Master’s Degree in elementary education from Viterbo University and then my Gifted and Talented endorsement from The University of Iowa in 2009.  In my free time, I love to hang out with my family.  Chad and I have two wonderful boys, Carson and Caleb, and they keep us very active.  I also love to read, volunteer at church, attend sporting events, and play games.

I am originally from Johnston, IA, so I haven’t ventured far from home.  I attended the University of Northern Iowa where I received my degrees in elementary education and middle level education.  I began my career teaching 5th grade for ADM schools in 2014.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, Alex, participating and watching many different sports, and spending time with our families.  I am fortunate enough to have all three of my siblings in the Des Moines area with me!
