Literacy

Bio

I was born and raised in West Des Moines. In 2004 I received a degree in Elementary Education from The University of Iowa, with endorsements in Reading and Language Arts. I have been teaching for eleven years. This is my fourth year at ADM Middle School and my eighth year in the district (I also spent four years teaching fifth graders at DeSoto Intermediate). For the past three years, I have been teaching writing exclusively, so I am very excited to be teaching both reading and writing in our Literacy block this year! I live in Urbandale with my husband Nick, our (full-of-energy) 2 year old daughter Amelia, and dog Sam. I enjoy reading, staying active, trying out new restaurants, cheering for the Hawkeyes, and spending time with family.

Bio

I am originally from South Dakota. My dad was a high school teacher and coach; inspiring all three of his children to become teachers!  I attended the University of South Dakota where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1991. After getting married, Kelly and I moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. My first teaching position was in a one room school house near Ashland, Nebraska (20 miles from Lincoln). I taught ten children, ages 4-11, grades K-5. What an experience!  My husband’s job took us to Cedar Falls, Iowa the following year where I substitute taught for a time, and we began our family. We moved to Clive, Iowa in 1998, and moved to Adel in 2004. Adel is the place we are proud to call home.  I live with my husband, Kelly, our children Bryce, Ian, and Isabel, and dog, Ivy. We are a family of Kansas Jayhawk fans and enjoy watching movies together, golfing, and love when we can get dip our toes in the ocean now and again.

Bio

I hail from a small town in northwest Iowa – Rock Rapids. I attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated at the top of my class earning the Purple and Old Gold Award in Middle Level Education in 2009. ADM has been my first home in my teaching career, which started in the 2010-2011 school year. Being fit and active has always been a passion of mine, which has lead me to pass on that love through coaching a couple sports in the middle school including seventh grade boys basketball and track and field. Not only do I enjoy exercising my body, but I also enjoy exercising my mind. This love of learning, has lead to coaching/sponsoring/teaching a few other extracurricular activities at the middle school – Science Bowl and STEM Excellence and Leadership. Outside of school, my time is spent taking classes to get my master’s degree and training/playing with my Therapy-Dog-in-Training, Banner, with my wife, Dani.

Bio

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from The University of Northern Iowa, with a minor in Elementary Mathematics.  Growing up in the ADM school district, it has been such a blessing to come back as an educator.  This is my 16th year in the district.  I started my career teaching first grade at Minburn Elementary for six years.  I then moved to DeSoto Intermediate, where I taught third grade for one year and fourth grade for another six years.  This is now my third year in the middle school, and I have to say I feel at home.  I have three kids that keep me very busy.  My oldest, Jordyn, is a freshman at the University of Iowa.  My son, Josh, is a 9th grader and my youngest, Tatum, is in 5th grade.   In my free time I enjoy walking my dog, reading, and spending time with family.

Bio

I grew up in Eastern Iowa and graduated from HLV High School. I attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa where I played baseball for four years, but most importantly received my degree in Physical Education and received my coaching endorsement.  After graduating from Cornell, I worked at Woodward Academy for two years where I was a youth counselor, Physical Education teacher, and Special Education teacher.  In the 2015-2016 school year I was hired as an assistant basketball coach at ADM, and from there became an assistant baseball coach and 6th grade resource teacher. I am currently in the Graduate Program in Special Education at Morningside College. I live in Adel with my wife Emily, and 1 year old puppy Baylie.  I enjoy the outdoors, hunting, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Bio

I grew up in northern Illinois, 60 miles west of Chicago. I lived in a small farming community, and most of my family still lives in that area.  I attended Iowa State University where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in math. I have been teaching for the ADM district for 34 years. In my free time, I love gardening, mowing, and the Chicago Cubs. My husband, Greg, and I have 3 children: Bryce and Michael (twins) are 21 years old, and our daughter, Hannah, is 20 years old. We also have a 10 month old golden retriever puppy named Ivy who continues to teach me the meaning of patience.
