Life Science

Bio

I grew up in Illinois on a small livestock farm.  My high school graduating class had 36 graduates of which my wife was one also. After graduating with a history major from Eastern Illinois University, I taught  various areas of history for 5 years then left the educational system and worked in the agriculture area for 25 years before returning to teaching and moving from history to life sciences.  My wife also teaches in Urbandale. I have 4 grown children with 12 grandchildren!  Lots and lots of fun being with 7th graders all week and my grandkids on the the weekends.

Literacy

Bio

I grew up in Spirit Lake, Iowa and attended Iowa State University.  While in college I met and married my husband, David.  We quickly moved to Arizona, after graduating, where I taught for 12 years in preschool, special needs preschool, and first grade.  While teaching, I began my special educational master’s program.  I completed my master’s program in Iowa after we moved back to be near family.  This will be my 20th year teaching and my 8th year with ADM.  I love every minute of working with our students, parents, and staff!  During my free time I love to spend time with my husband and our two kids, Emma and Christian, going fishing, hiking, and lots of other activities outside.

Gateway to Technology

Bio

I grew up in Hendricks, Minnesota, and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. I graduated in 1990 with a Chemistry major and English minor. After youth directing in West Des Moines for two years, I received my masters and teaching degree from Drake University. I have taught at four Iowa schools of various sizes for a total of 16 years before arriving at ADM where I am entering my fifth year. I have enjoyed coaching the girls’ track and field at ADM for the past four years with outstanding athletes who have won two team conference championships.   I will be teaching high school Physics, as well as seventh and eighth grade Gateway to Technology this year. Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors, time at the lake, running and being with family. I also run a detasseling crew during the summer.  I live with my wife Casandra, and my three children Brianna, Ellie and Nate. Brianna is a freshman at Iowa, Ellie is a junior at ADM, and Nate is an 8th grader at ADM.

Geography

Bio

I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before coming to Iowa to attend Drake University in 1994.  I graduated from Drake in 1998 with a degree in History.  Before coming to ADM, I taught Geography and Civics in Des Moines at Meredith Middle School for 13 years, until 2013.  Though I began teaching at ADM in 2013, I have lived here since 2004. My wife, Melissa, and I have three wonderful kids: Haley, Andrew, and Hannah.  They keep us busy, but I also like to find time to golf, read, run, and watch about any sports event you can imagine (especially the Hawkeyes, Vikings, and Twins).

Literacy

Bio

Growing up in Waukee, I always knew that I wanted to end up teaching in a school district with a small town feeling. After attending the University of Northern Iowa  (Go PANTHERS!) I was given the opportunity to interview for Adel DeSoto Minburn School District. I taught four years as a fourth grade teacher at DeSoto Intermediate, and this will be my second year as a seventh grade Literacy teacher.  My interests include cooking, antiquing, and hanging out with family! On the weekend, you can usually find me reading or enjoying a Netflix binge.
