Here is a description of each unit of study, time frame of study, and the essential learnings of each integrated unit study taught in kindergarten.

Safety 1 Week
  1. Individuals develop personal safety responsibilities, which includes pedestrian, bicycle, auto, fire and water safety.
My Community 4 Weeks
  1. Communities have rules and laws that all members are expected to follow to benefit all people.
  2. Each individual has an equal right and a shared responsibility to contribute positively to their community.
My Past 3 Weeks
  1. Historical information can be read and interpreted.
  2. People can learn about the past in many ways – stories, customs, and holidays.
  3. People need some things to live and want other things to make life easier or more fun.

My Inner Scientist 3 Weeks
  1. Materials can exist in different states and can change from one state to another.
  2. Students will conduct simple investigations to answer questions to construct reasonable explanations.
My World 5 Weeks
  1. Living things share observable common characteristics by which they can be classified.
  2. Animals have life cycles with distinctive stages of development.
My Environment 6 Weeks
  1. Living things share common characteristics that are similar to and different from non-living things.
  2. Seasons are affected by the position of the sun, which determines the changes in weather.
  3. The way people interact with the environment will have good or bad consequences.
