Construction Project Information
On February 4th, 2014, our district’s voters approved a $13.5 million bond issue, with 84.2% in favor, to fund additions and renovations throughout the district. This level of support not only demonstrates the public’s recognition of the needs that we face as a growing district, but also validates the district’s efforts to provide high-quality resources for our students while safeguarding our residents’ tax dollars.
Addressing Our Needs
ADM’s served enrollment has increased by over 10% during the last four years, and projections have called for continued growth. With school buildings that were already being fully-utilized, the district engaged in a facility master planning process during the 2012-13 school year. After evaluating available options, the study committee recommended that additions to the four current school buildings be pursued, a solution that allows for future flexibility and would not result in a tax-rate increase.
Current Construction Projects
Additions and renovations to Adel Elementary are currently under construction and scheduled to open in August, 2015. This addition includes seven classrooms, while renovations include a number of existing classrooms, the entry and office spaces, and a reconfiguration and expansion of the parking and pickup/drop-off facilities. The new parent pickup/drop-off area will be able to accommodate more parent vehicles and will be accessible directly off of Grove Street, south of the school. The entrance off of Locust Street will now enter a dedicated bus pickup/drop-off facility. The total anticipated costs of the Adel Elementary additions, renovations, and site improvements are $4,049,524.
Ten classrooms are being added onto the north side of the DeSoto Intermediate building, and a new main entrance and office area are being constructed on the west side of the building. Long-standing parking and pickup/drop-off issues at the school are being addressed through a major expansion of paved parking and pickup facilities on the west side of the building, as well as creation of a dedicated bus pickup/drop-off facility on the south side of the building. The new facilities are scheduled to open in August, 2015, with a total cost for the additions, renovations, and site improvements of $5,000,258.
ADM Middle School
A two-story addition to the northeast corner of ADM Middle School will provide much-needed additional space in the form of eight classrooms, including specialized science and pre-engineering facilities. The addition is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. In addition to the building addition, the move of the district’s central offices to the former 6-7 middle school building (see below) will provide additional classroom and office space, which will also allow for implementation of more appropriate space for the guidance department. The total anticipated cost for the middle school addition is $2,416,322.
ADM High School
Three new classrooms will be constructed on the south end of ADM High School, with each classroom designed to meet modern specifications for high school science facilities. With the addition of these three science labs, the current science classrooms at the high school will be renovated to serve as general education classrooms. In addition to this addition, the high school will undergo renovations to common areas throughout the building, the entrance and office areas, and upgrades will be performed to the building’s fire and security systems.
District Office Move/Renovation (former 6-7 MS building)
Baseline improvements will be made to the former 6th/7th middle school building in Adel, which will serve as the new location for the district’s administrative offices. In addition to housing the office of the superintendent, the district office building will house the district’s business and human resources offices, technology department, and buildings & grounds department. This project is scheduled for completion prior to a central office move during Summer, 2016.
