Every quarter, DeSoto staff and students attend a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) assembly that focuses on the DeSoto Intermediate expectations of ROARing:

  • Respecting Others
  • Always Safe
  • Be Responsible

The first quarter assembly targeted positive sportsmanship and encouragement of others in a scooter race event.  After learning about various ways they can exhibit respectful behaviors when participating in or observing games and competitions, student names were drawn from a collection of PBIS tickets to participate in a scooter race relay.  The students in the audience then had the opportunity to exhibit positive sportsmanship and encouragement toward their peers. After the assembly, each class had a chance to participate in a smaller scooter race to ensure all students the opportunity to celebrate behavioral successes, set goals, and have fun!
