On Thursday, September 8th, the ADM 6th Grade welcomed Dallas and Dellacina Chief Eagle, two Native American hoop dancers from the Rosebud Lakota nation. Dallas and Dellacina shared their culture with the 6th graders by inviting the students to “step inside their story” through participating in hoop dancing as well as engaging in question and answer sessions.

Students saw connections to the book they are all currently reading, Ghost Hawk, by Susan Cooper, which tells the story of one Native American boy as European settlers enter his family’s territory. Students were immediately reminded of Ghost Hawk as Dallas spoke passionately about his lifelong goal to share and preserve his culture, helping the students see the parallels between the two “stories” they encountered.
